Fire District
The Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District is a state chartered corporate entity operating under state laws as a municipal corporation. The fire district was established following a February 15, 1942 referendum vote by the citizens of the Villages of Deerfield and Bannockburn. The first meeting was held on April 29, 1942 where three citizens were appointed as the board of trustees to oversee the fire district. Territory of the fire district includes the villages of Deerfield (north of Lake-Cook Road), Bannockburn, Riverwoods and Lincolnshire (within West Deerfield Township) and all unincorporated areas of West Deerfield Township, totaling 8.3 square miles. The fire district continued as an all-volunteer department until 1968.
Today the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District is still governed by a three member board of trustees who are appointed by the Lake County Board. The fire district has a population of approximately 23,000. However, due to corporate and mercantile buildings within the fire district, the population can double during daytime business hours. The fire district is covered by two fire stations and employs 43 sworn personnel, along with two civilian staff employees and a fleet manager. The district embraces its long and proud history and upholds a long standing tradition of providing excellent service to those we serve.
